It is our pleasure to bring our friend Akinobu Tatsumi / TA2MI to London for an event about Sound and Buddhism in Japan on the 2nd March 2019, organised with SOAS Centre for Buddhist Studies and the Centre for the Study of Japanese Religions.

We were honoured to be asked to arrange a concert for the legendary Haruomi Hosono, at The Old Market in Hove, celebrating the release of the Haruomi Hosono Archival Series by Light in the Attic Records.

We joined forces with the BBC Radio 3 Exposure programme to bring an amazing line-up of experimental female musicians to Spiritland - Hatis Noit, Tomoko Sauvage and Mimicof.

It was a pleasure to perform alongside Takeshi Nishimoto at nowJapan in Vilnius, Lithuania, as well as presenting our Japan Sound Portrait Virtual Reality with amoeba_av.

We hosted our first live concert event at Cafe Oto in London, featuring Makoto Nomura, Kumiko Yabu, Midori Komachi, abirdwhale and Verity Lane.

We held a benefit event for people affected by the April 2016 earthquakes in the Kumamoto region.

We gave our first Japan Sound Portrait live performance alongside Midori Komachi at the very special Flau Records meets Sonic Pieces event held at Anyoin Temple, Tokyo.

We were very happy to present a night of Japanese music at Spiritland - a cafe and bar built around a world-class sound system. Rare recordings, live performances and conversation, featuring the legendary Hotei.

In partnership with amoeba_VR, we have developed a series of virtual reality soundscapes, which have featured at a number of our events. Click here for a glimpse into this experience.

Japan Sound Portrait were pleased to present Midori Komachi and abirdwhale as part of Tallinn Music Week.

Alongside Steve Hellier, we presented field recordings from Japan Sound Portrait specially mixed for quadrophonic / surround sound performance on the Bowers & Wilkins stage at WOMAD Festival.

We were very happy to give a presentation alongside the specially invited guest Akihiro Iitomi at The Sights and Sound of Japan event at The University of Cambridge.

We were very happy to join Coppe to celebrate the 20th anniversary of her Mango + Sweetrice record label.

We were delighted to provide present day recordings of Tokyo’s Sumida River combined with historical poems by Basho for a series of QR code listening stations as part of the Totally Thames Festival.

We launched the project in the Spring of 2015 with a series of events throughout Japan.
